BLOG: Nothing beats the outdoor activities in Upstate New York! From hiking in the Adirondacks to swimming on the Hudson River, there are so many ways to stay active in the summer. And with a Stewart’s shop in nearly every neighborhood, you never need to worry about running out of healthy fuel for your body.
Just last week I climbed my first mountain of the season. I stopped at a Stewart’s on my way, sure that I would find exactly what I needed for a long day of physical activity. And I wasn’t the only one; other hikers and bikers were also relying on this neighborhood store to supply snacks and food.
Stewart’s has a great selection of items that contain protein and carbohydrate, the two most important nutrients for a hard days work! Protein is needed to build and repair working muscles while carbohydrate is needed for energy! Without enough carbohydrate, your body actually uses protein for energy, preventing it from doing its job in the muscles. Foods with more fiber will also supply longer-lasting energy to keep you going all day!
Stewart’s has a variety of these options ready for on-the-go customers who live an active and healthy lifestyle. While talking with other Stewart’s customers, I came up with a list of quick and wholesome fuel sources to pack for your next outdoor activity:
• Stewart’s Sweet and Salty Trail Mix: This snack is available as a car cup and couldn’t be easier to pack in your bag! Trail mix contains raisins for high-quality carbohydrate and nuts for protein and fiber.
• Fresh Fruit: Every Stewart’s Shop has fresh bananas, apples, and oranges for a simple on-the go snack. Fruit provides great carbohydrate and fiber; take along a resealable Stewart’s Low fat Milk Refresher to add protein to your day.
• Freshly Prepared English Muffin: Check the counter at your local shop for freshly prepared English Muffins or bread with peanut butter. This combination provides both carbohydrate and protein as an easy-to-pack option. Select a whole wheat muffin for the greatest amount of fiber, vitamins and minerals!
• Protein Bars: Carrying extra protein and granola bars is a great idea in case of an emergency. Look for one with at least 5g of fiber and 10g of protein for long lasting fuel!
Maintaining an active lifestyle is crucial for a healthy life. However, it is important to be prepared with the fuel that your body needs for physical activity. Stewart’s prides itself on being available in nearly every neighborhood, and is committed to providing on-the-go options; making it the perfect pit stop!
